Statement of support for Ukraine Fire and Emergency Services

The invasion of the sovereign nation of Ukraine by Russia has created a human rights, humanitarian, and displacement crisis of unprecedented scale in modern Europe. Along with the harm being felt by the people of Ukraine, Fire and Emergency Services workers who are sworn to protect the Ukrainian people now find themselves under far more perilous conditions than those typically faced in these already dangerous professions. In the midst of a lethal assault by Russia, these courageous Ukrainian emergency responders continue to put service above self to extinguish fires, conduct search operations to rescue trapped victims, and render aid to the injured under wartime conditions.

The Institution of Fire Engineers – USA Branch joins the nations and organizations from around the globe in condemning the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and fully supports the men and women of Ukrainian Fire and Emergency Services as they do all that they can to serve their fellow citizens amid these acts of aggression on their homeland. We urge Fire and Emergency Services organizations across the world to likewise take a stand against these atrocities.

This statement of support is unanimously approved by the IFE-USA Board on 10 March 2022.
